Lost Sock Memorial Day!

      When : Always May 9th

Lost Sock Memorial Day recognizes your drawer full of unmatched socks. Each unmatched sock represents a missing sock. We never throw away our unmatched socks. After all, it may show up someday.       On Lost Sock Memorial Day, we suggest you spend a little time (as little as possible) searching for those missing socks.  After a (very) brief search, and in good "Memorial" spirit, spend a minute reflecting upon how warm and comforting the missing socks were on your stinky toes. Then, by all means, get on with your life. Today is also a good opportunity to toss out all of your unmatched socks.
Origin of Lost Sock Memorial Day:
Despite exhaustive (tee, hee) research, we found no one who was brave enough to claim responsibility for starting this wonderful day of remembrance.

World Penguin Day!

World Penguin Day is a great opportunity to learn about and appreciate one of the few natives of Antarctica. On this day, spend a little time learning about them.... a pictorial book or internet site is fun. You can also watch a documentary of these cute and popular, grounded birds.       These days are also a time to wear black and white---penguin colors. However, wearing a tuxedo in their honor is optional. It is also popular today to tell a penguin joke or two.     World Penguin Day coincides with the annual northward migration of penguins. This happens each year on or around April 25th. Penguins do not fly. Rather, they walk, or waddle their way to and from.

School Librarian Day! Read a Book Today!

School Librarian Day honors those who serve our young students so well in the local school libraries. The education of young minds needs to be nurtured and fed. Feeding those minds with good quality, yet challenging reading material and reference materials is what school librarians excel at.
Take a minute today, to appreciate all the hard work that a school librarian does daily, and the patience the librarian displays, as he or she aids our youth.
You may choose to show your appreciation to School Librarians in a variety of ways, including:
  • Give the librarian a big smile and a big "Thank You!"
  • Tell you librarian that she is doing a wonderful job.
  • Send an Ecard
  • Buy an age appropriate book or reference material, and donate it to the library

International Tatting Day Today!

Tatting Day has been celebrated internationally for over 4 years now. April 1st is the International Tatting Day.
Tatting is the skill of making delicate, elegant tatted lace. It is enjoyed by thousands of people.
On this day, "tatters" around the world have different activities, mostly educational, to celebrate their hobby, and introduce it to others. Often, they celebrate by eating chocolates and making tatted lace.

It's Something on a Stick Day!

Something on a Stick Day celebrates things on a stick. Isn't this just a neat day? We thought you'd agree.
So what comes on a stick? Practically anything. The first thing that comes to mind is popsicles and fudgecicles. Hotdogs are poplar on a stick at campfires. There's also corndogs, and shrimp and many chinese treats. Cocktail wieners and cheese are picked and eaten on a stick(a toothpick). You can also get just about anything on a stick when receiving food samples at a store or festival. Celebrate this fun day by serving food for meals and snacks on a stick. The kids will love it. So will you!

There's not just food that is on a stick either!
